GOOD GRIEF! is an up-close-and-(hyper)personal mobilization of the joy, companionship, pleasure, rage, and vulnerability in grief. This 60-minute, deeply heartfelt dance-clown-theater-burlesque performance lays bare how pain is so close to pleasure, loss so close to love, and grief an absurd mixed up process of clinging tight & letting go. Good Grief! invites the jostling loose and letting out of laughter, tears, and anything else that might be shed, lost, or set free.
Created by Lillian Ransijn and Dylan Smythe, directed by Francesca Montanile Lyons, Good Grief! premiered as Rough and Tumble: Pickled Peaches and Herring in the Cannonball Festival of Philadelphia Fringe in September 2022, and is the culmination of five years of performance research. After a wonderfully meaningful set of performance at LeMondo in Baltimore, Rough & Tumble is looking to remount this work back in Philly.
Good Grief was born from long-standing collaboration with Lillian Ransijn - performance explorations of grief in cabaret, dance, and theatre- including: The Snake, Werks Barehouse, April 27, 2019. Rough & Tumble, ONE: A Kinetic Journey Festival, Atlanta, GA, 2017. Rough & Tumble, SoLow Fest, Philadelphia 2017.
